So yesterday Lindsay called me to join her for the Loy Krathong celebrations in Laguna. Even though I have been here for two years, I had yet to join in the celebrations, so obviously I was game.
Loy Krathong is also known as the festival of light. If you’re in Phuket on the full moon of November, you will see thousands of lights floating on every stretch of water around the island – this can be a river, lake or even the ocean. It’s such a pretty sight to see all these beautiful lights drifting over the water like seeing a second sky filled with stars.
By offering these beautiful krathongs we ask for forgiveness from Pra Mea Khongkha – the Goddess of the River Mae Khong. It is believed that the krathong will carry your bad luck into the distance and enable a better start to the following year. So let’s bring on the next year!
Take a look and join in the festivities next time around!
