A Liebster Award for Frei’s Days

WOOHOO! The other day Marteen from Teenybell gave me the Liebster Blog Award. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you Marteen for giving this award to me, and off course also for all of you guys for reading my blog. This is the first time I have been nominated for anything like this, so this is a nice turn of events!

The Liebster Award has been created to recognise new bloggers and help promote them. There is no big prize money or even a trophy that goes along with this award, so being recognised by other bloggers is my biggest reward! I think it’s such a great idea, as it will help get some more people to other bloggers websites.

First of all, what is a Liebster Award? As said the Liebster Award is given by a blogger to another up and coming blogger who has less than 200 followers. It’s not a real award, as there are no judges and no special rules, but it is in recognition of your work as it’s given by another blogger who likes your blog. In the blogging world it’s all about building a community, and by giving a Liebster award to someone, you connect with other bloggers and help spread the word about newer bloggers/blogs. I think it’s awesome!

Once you have received the Liebster award there are some rules you have to follow. {No real award, but you do need to do work?! That’s the way the cookie crumbles I guess… ;)} Luckily the rules are very simple:

  1. Thank the person who nominated you, and post a link to their blog on your blog.
  2. Display the award on your blog – by including in in your post and/or displaying it using a widget or a gadget.
  3. Answer 11 questions about yourself, which will be provided to you by the person who nominated you.
  4. Nominate 5-11 blogs that you feel deserve the award – note that they need to have less than 200 followers.
  5. Create a new list of questions for the blogger you nominated.
  6. List these rules in your post.
  7. Once you have written the post you have to inform the people/blogs that you’ve nominated that they have been given a Liebster Award and provide a link for them to your post so that they can learn about it.

Most of the points above I have done already – however here comes the most difficult part. First off – I need to go into the questions that Marteen has created for me:

1. Why did you start blogging?
I have always been a fan of reading other people’s blogs. When I moved overseas for my internship in the Caribbean I started writing a blog to everyone on my adventures there, as I did not want to send mass emails to everyone and clutter their inboxes. In this way they could choose to head over and read the stories, or not. I received a lot of positive feedback about my writing style, and it felt like a great outlet.

Once I moved overseas to join Ruben in Singapore, I wanted to start a blog again. However with crazy work hours I did not find the time to write on a weekly or even monthly basis. After Singapore we moved to Ho Chi Minh City, and then to Phuket where I finally have found the time to sit back and start writing again. Hence the blog Frei’s Days was created.

2. What song stops you in your tracks and why?
Mmm this is a tricky one, as I hardly listen to music. I mean I hear them, but I don’t really listen to them. However for our wedding I had to find a great song for the ceremony, and fell in love with the song by Jason Mraz’s “Hello, You Beautiful Thing”. I loved the lyrics and the sound of this song so much, I right away knew that it would be the perfect song for us.

3. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?
Ruben lived for 1.5 years in Chicago, where I visited him often. I would love to live there, the people are friendly, there are 4 distinct seasons {what I truly miss here in Phuket} and the food is amazing! Hopefully one day…

4. Dog or cat?
Dog – however I start to fall in love with the office cat MJ…

5. You’re hosting a dinner party and you’re only allowed to invite three people (dead or alive), who would they be and why?
That would be my three friends Bibian, Petra and Anke. We’ve been friends since we were teenagers and I hardly get to see them as I live on the other side of the world. I would love to have them here for a special evening! I know it will be amazing.

6. What would be your all time favourite book?
“Haar naam was Sarah” or “Sarah’s Key” how it’s known in English. I could not put this book away…

7. Who was your first crush?
My first crush was my neighbour Frank – we lived next to each other for a couple of years. Our parents had even opened up our backyards and we shared our sandbox together. Unfortunately his parents has a job offer in another village and had to leave. But we stayed pen palls for the longest time and every holiday we had we would have payama parties at each others houses.

8. Do you have a guilty pleasure?
I don’t really think so. Except for maybe binge watching series on TV…

9. What was the last thing you bought?
A Christmas present for Ruben. I can’t say what it is as it will ruin the surprise!

10. What is your desert island must have?
Other people! I would not be able to survive without contact with other people. It would totally drive me crazy!

11. What was the last film you watched?
Soof – a Dutch movie my mom send over to us as a Sinterklaas present. I loved watching a new Dutch movie again.

Secondly I need to nominate new bloggers for this award – I have to say it’s super difficult to nominate blogs that have less then 200 readers, so I cheated a little bit. I did not choose for the 1,000+ bloggers, but chose some blogs that could still use a little bit of exposure. So my nominations are:

  • Ineymai – a full-time mum with a passion for creativity and one of my great friends! Check out the amazing freebies she is giving away!
  • CornishKylie – an English teacher in Thailand giving an insight into her life in Thailand, teaching ideas, travel tips and photography.
  • Bitterballenbruid – Hayley is an expat living in Holland and married to a Dutch guy. It’s great to read her adventures in Holland and seeing how a foreigner looks at our quirks.
  • Travelling Penster – Penny currently lives in Panama and has a serious travel addiction.
  • Dutch Pancake – California born Meredith lives with her husband in Amsterdam. The photos on her blog make me feel homesick…

And finally my 11 questions for my nominees {good luck 🙂 }:

  1. If you won the lottery big time – what would you do with it?
  2. Where in the world would you most like to live – and why?
  3. What is your favourite book?
  4. What is the greatest travel experience you have ever had?
  5. What is the worst travel experience you have ever had?
  6. What are your top 3 must-have items when travelling?
  7. Off all the places you have visited, which is the one you would recommend to everyone?
  8. What makes you smile?
  9. What is your biggest challenge when it comes to blogging? And how do you overcome it?
  10. Who is your favourite blogger?
  11. Where are you planning to travel next?

Well I think I have done my part for the Liebster Award. Once again – thank you Marteen for nominating me, it’s a great honour. And all of you nominated, good luck on answering all the questions 🙂
